Value Project: Light Source

For an object to have value it needs a light source.  Without any light things would appear flat and be very hard to see.  You must choose a light source to shine down upon your form!

What kind of light source will you choose…

light sourceYou may use one of these or think of your own!  Draw your light source in the corner of your composition, no bigger than one fourth of the size of your micro organism. (I know this is not realistic but this is for me to understand where your light is coming from)

When you know where your light is coming from then you can begin to apply value to your forms.  The part of your form that is farthest from the light source will be the darkest, the closest is the lightest/brightest.  Sometimes, however, an area may need to be darker than it would seem because…
